Today, there are a lot of miraculous pills in the market that promise to make you slim and fit in a flash.
Watch out There are a lot of diet traps out there that you should steer clear of. Here are some of the tricks we’re talking about and some strategies how to avoid them:
- No clear goal
Having no clear goal is just as bad as not enough planning. For you to reach your goal, you have to set one. The goal has to be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic & Time-bound)! Say your goal is to lose 30 pounds in 8 weeks, then plan ahead and schedule your works. And remember to stick to it!
- Thinking you have to starve yourself to lose weight:
Why it’s a trap: According to Anabolic Minds, yes starving yourself will make you lose weight but not in a healthy way. It will make you lose water weight first and some fats, then your body will attack your muscles to sustain itself. Very low calorie count is very dangerous since it will cause your body to eventually shut down.
How to avoid it: Lessen your carbs intake and eat more high-protein food like greek yoghurt, cheese or eggs for breakfast instead of pancakes and syrups. Steaks or chicken breast for lunch (either totally remove the rice or replace it with mashed potatoes and beans). Mixed nuts and fruit smoothies for snack.
- Skipping Exercise
Yes you can eat less everyday but it will not be 100% effective without exercise. It does not have to be heavy body building exercises, start with slow and easy movements just to keep your body on the move. You can enroll to a few sessions at the gym or what fitness videos. Just make sure not to skip anything!
- Getting into fad diet
According to WebMD, we all know someone who went on a diet and swears by it. These diets rarely work for long. A sudden change in your eating habits can lead to a pattern of quick weight loss followed by rebound weight gain once you go back to a normal diet. So just stick to the normal and healty ways of losing weight.
- Avoid quick-fixes
Whether you’re late for work or you’re not in the mood to eat, do not settle for quick fixes. Fix it! According to SA Health, quick-fix diets do not help to improve long-term eating habits or sustained weight-loss and can often also bring about harmful side effects to your health.
